Who You Gonna Call? Chris Bentley

Sung to the tune of Ghostbusters ...

Louder! Chris Bentley!

I waited a bit on writing a post about Ontario's new Attorney General (AG) because I wanted to give Mr. Bentley some time to adjust before I unleash you all on him.

Ontario's new attorney general is a force to be reckoned with, as far as I'm concerned.
Dude's got quite [the background] and this is the dude we want behind us - us taxpayers.

Many readers who have eaten at the Buffet de Chez Gigababy have expressed anger over the recent road deaths I have written about, many wondering aloud in comments and in email who they should call or write to? Well, Chris Bentley is your man.

To read what exactly the AG does - [click here]

And before you roll your eyes and wonder why you should care, take a second and grab a most recent paystub. Where it says Ontario Tax, how much was deducted?

For me, I pay a total of $416 each month, or $4992.00 for the year. I would like to think that if anyone was the victim of a street racing incident in my immediate family, or died because someone was an ass behind the wheel like, oh I don't know - Nauman Nusrat for example - that the courts in Ontario that I pay five grand a year to protect me will hand down a sentence should Mr. Nusrat be found guilty of all charges he faces in the death of David Virgoe ... actually let me list them:

- criminal negligence causing death by street racing;
- criminal negligence causing bodily harm by street racing;
- dangerous operation causing death;
- criminal negligence causing death,
- and causing a common nuisance ...

That Mr. Nusrat actually spends some time in jail. I do not want Mr. Nusrat to be able to plea to a lesser charge, pay a fine, get probation and maybe not drive for a year.
THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE. And I mean that.

I will not stand for it.
The charges that Mr. Nusrat faces along with Prabhjit Multani and Ravi Badhwar carry penalties of up to 14 years in prison. I'm not saying they all deserve the maximum but good Christ, we need a judge who isn't going to pussyfoot around playing the "no prior criminal record" card and give suspended sentences.

Enough is enough. I have documented for the media and others the outright ignorance displayed by these men - charged in David's death - behind the wheel, long before they decided to engage in a race to Wasaga Beach on the 400 on June 18th. These were men who bragged to friends about the risks they liked to take behind the wheel and most of these quotes have been well documented in the media and were at one point - online. Internet caches are amazing tools. And quotes made by myself were also reprinted in the media, a testament of your average taxpayer appalled by the behavior of others on our roads.

So, please, do get mad. You should be downright furious. David Virgoe is only one example of a road tragedy. David Virgoe is also a hero [read].

There are many more victims before him and many after him, most recently the deaths of Mariarosa Dalsass and Cindy Dougherty [read] and Matthew Power [read]. All of these cases are still before the courts. There is still time to take action. There is still time to send a message.

And if you want to know if I care about the men charged in these crimes and their feelings and what they are possibly going through, the answer is I don't care. They are alive. And when they get out of jail - should they be found guilty - whether it be two years, five years or seven years, they will get to go home to their families. I don't care if they get life in prison (25 years).

The only people who got life sentences in these cases were those who died. There is no bail for them. There is no second chance.

Everything one does behind the wheel of a car is by choice. It's not an accident when you are speeding. It's not an accident when you drive 140 km/hr or 170 km/hr. It's not an accident to pass on the soft shoulder. That's a choice. And if you kill someone through these selfish and really bad choices, you deserve punishment. I don't care how old you are. I don't care if you are a son of a reverend, or the brother of a sister who feeds the poor and shelters the sick.

We need stiffer penalties and longer sentences to send a clear message to others.
We won't stand for it anymore.

You turned that key. You made a choice.

And don't talk to me about remorse as a punishment, that poor [Steven and Brian Machado] have to live with their remorse for the rest of their lives. Remorse is not enough because I will tell you a little something about remorse. Remorse is a useless emotion. The only time we feel remorse as the result of a consequence or something we knew ahead of time was wrong, is when we get caught.

In all these road deaths involving careless driving and criminal intent behind the wheel, I will bet you one thousand dollars - each - that this was not the first time any of the charged and convicted individuals I have written about pushed the speed limit. And the only reason they have remorse is because THEY GOT CAUGHT.

If all of these men:
.: Ravi Badhwar

.: Wang-Piao Dumani Ross

.: Brian & Steven Machado

.: Prabhjit Multani

.: Nauman Nusrat

.: Alexander Ryazanov

had made it back home the day they allegedly and/or had proven to have murdered someone's father, mother, spouse, daughter, son, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin and best friend ... and nothing happened, and everyone sat down to dinner that night all in one piece - NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM WOULD HAVE THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT WHAT THEY DID ... the speeding, the racing and the passing/tailgating. I guarantee it. I swear by those words.

So cut the crap and save the excuses.
They had a choice. They deserve to be punished.

And this could happen to you. You are not immune.

I'm sick of this crap. People killing loved ones, ripping these people from families and walking out of court having to pay a $500 fine and losing the privilege to drive for one year.

That's a joke! It pisses me off.

So yes, get mad. Contact the AG of Ontario.

Start by [clicking here].

Thank you.

Hi Gord,
The commitment one must make to public service is huge. It is not a 9 to 5 job. And if I am ever going to attempt it, possibly at the municipal level, I will have to wait because my daughter/spouse come first right now. The sacrifice is too great even though the calling for me has always been a desire.

Judging by the context of your comment, you are most likely another anonymous friend of one of the accused I mentioned. In fact, I can 'see' that you are. Why don't you just bookmark that damn site. Have you not clued in that I can see how exactly you got here through Google?

Why yes, the government does care what I think. How do you think Dalton McGunity got re-elected? By choosing the shortest straw? Where were you on October 10? Oh, let me guess, mommy and daddy told you to clean your room, or you couldn't be bothered to get off your over-indulgent, indignant ass to go and vote.

Are you even over the age of 18?

How do you think the new street racing law came into effect?

Have you ever heard of Adrienne Seggie?

Have you even bothered to read a fraction of my site other posts about your buddies or are you too busy googling your buddies everyday (I can see that you know) to read what I am writing about them?

Your friends aren't immune.
Don't think for a second that others aren't watching to see what happens in these cases.

Don't speak for me.

Later.

Dear Mr. Bentley,
First, I would like to congratulate you on your appointment. I have read about your background and I am pleased with Mr. McGuinty's decision.
I am sure you will do us Ontario taxpayers proud.

I would like to call your attention to a case I have been following involving the death of a man who sacrificed himself to save others after being struck by a car involved in an alleged street race on June 18th, 2007 on Highway 400 north of Toronto.

I have written extensively about David Virgoe's death and his courage on my personal blog which is currently read daily by 250 regular readers and accessed by roughly 1,500 more on a weekly basis.

I want justice to be served for the Virgoe family.
I do not want David's death and sacrifice to be dishonored by a slap on the wrist should a conviction be reached in his case.

As a taxpayer, I am very disheartened to learn how other cases involving road deaths as the result of recklessness and speed behind the wheel have resulted in extremely lenient punishments. It saddens me that our courts no longer issue punishments that suit the crime but instead, put a value - a fine if you wish, as a price for a loved one's life.

It's just wrong.

I encourage you to read about David Virgoe.

Please start here:

and here
http://gigababy.blogspot.com/2007/07/so-who-was-david-virgoe.html

In regards to fines for the death of people stolen from their families, please read this case I covered and tell me do you think it's fair considering the convicted person displayed prior negligence behind the wheel?
http://gigababy.blogspot.com/2007/10/so-whats-value-of-mothers-life-is-500.html

I know you are mostly likely a very busy man.
And I appreciate any attention you can give to this case.

My Many Thanks,
Cindy Smith

To this Anonymous:
and if these guys do walk. then what? you really think the gov gives a shyte what u think? some blogger with nothing better to do with her time than talk shyte about ppl she doesn't know.

Wow. Just keep on coming don't they? Ok. Where to start? Maybe you just need some help in how to get a point across? Maybe you just need some clues? So here it goes.

First, insulting a person, instead of making an argument is futile, it only shows how ignorant you are. Instead of making a point, you get laughed at or ignored. I'll assume since it sounds like you keep coming back, you do not wish to be ignored. So, take a clue here, think of something to say, make an argument and see if you get an answer. Maybe you'll get insults, but then you can just ignore those, right? And if someone makes a good point, prove them wrong. If nobody answers, maybe you silenced your critics. See? It's not hard to try, just hard to win an argument.

Second, look around you. Look at the memorials on these pages. This woman has put a lot of effort and heart into expressing some painful opinions. People come here to express condolences for tragic loss. Really, really sad stuff. So, when you say hurtful things, it hurts not just the blog's author, but a lot of other people too.

Think of it like a wake or a funeral. You wouldn't say what you did at the funeral, so don't do it here. Really. It's rude, and doesn't make you look good. I know you don't care, and the Internet is anonymous, but still, you must have even a little self-respect, no?

And last (if you've read this far), think about who's reading and writing here. Other than the kids who show up because they google they're accused friends' names, there's others who google the accused because they are outraged at reading these events in the papers and end up finding this website. Getting traffic from Google is not an accident, it means the website is popular for a reason. Think about it, what does the word "popular" mean? It means lots of people think the same way.

The last point should answer your question about why the Gov cares.

That's it for now.

Geez.

No offense taken.
I did edit the original comment as I know what it's like to write from anger.
And you have every right to be angry.
They shouldn't walk.
And they better not walk.

the whole reason why gigash-t writes about any of this stuff and throws names that she read in the paper around on her blog is to get traffic. she's an attention friek. she could care less what any of these families that chose to humilate feel and she totally admits to that. her bias only adds fuel to the fire. all of the guys she's written about are NICE GUYS from GOOD FAMILIES but she refuses to believe what we've told her. no one meant for anyone to die. no one got in a car and said ok two ladies are going to die today.
she's a loser. will always be a loser and i'm prolly wasting my time writing this as she's all nazi now deciding who gets to speak and who doesnt.
i hope no one in her family ever makes a mistake while driving a car as i wouldnt want her to go through what i have seen with my own eyes.
it's easy for you to sit there and judge all of you because you only want someone to pay, you want revenge
you are so blinded by this someone has to pay BS that u can't see another family is suffering.
so as gigamoron said save it. i dont wanna hear it.

Gigababy. Tips are appreciated! said...

I decided long ago that you are blind as well.
You did not know any of the victims only the accused and you are angered that they got caught, had their names in the paper and had to read what other people thought of them, including me.

I have had no reason to believe any of the stuff all the friends of the accused have written because none of the stuff anyone wrote has been respectful and worth my consideration.

I have walked in neither shoes ... as a family friend or relative of a victim or a family friend or relative of an accused.

I only know myself and what I am capable of feeling or believing.

I don't believe in mistakes when it comes to irresponsibility behind the wheel.

You can continue to call me names and I don't have a problem admitting bias.

You will never change my opinion just like I can't change yours.

I don't need to get personal about my life but I know a lot more than I let on in my blog.

I only wish one thing for you ... Anonymous, that you never, ever lose your mom or dad to a road accident because someone decided to be an irresponsible selfish jerk and pass a dumptruck on the gravel shoulder of a two lane highway at 60km/hr over the legal limit and you have to read that the reason why your mom or dad will never come home is because someone made a mistake. That it was just an honest mistake, oops my foot slipped and that the person who is reponsible's remorse is punishment enough for the supposed crime.

When you can stomach that, then I will care about your view or opinion about your salt of the earth friends.
