RCMP

ALBERTA - On July 13th 2009, at approximately 6:35 pm, Hinton RCMP and Hinton Fire & Rescue Emergency Personnel responded to a single vehicle roll over approximately 30 kilometers north of Highway 16 on Highway 40, between Hinton and Grande Cache, Alberta.

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 40 when it left the roadway, off the southbound shoulder and upon re-entering the highway the vehicle rolled approximately 7 times across the northbound lane of Highway 40, resulting in the death of the driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The vehicle eventually came to rest in the east side ditch of the highway next to the north bound lane. Fortunately there were no other vehicles in the northbound lane at the time of the incident.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Vehicle speed and road conditions may have been contributing factors. Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out at this time.

Hinton RCMP would like to remind the public to please drive safe, reduce or eliminate possible driving distractions and remain vigilant while driving on all Alberta highways.

Investigators ask anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact Hinton RCMP at 780 - 740 - 2241.
