ONTARIO - Two of the westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 near Mavis Rd. remain closed as Ontario Provincial Police investigate an early morning crash that sent a 17-year-old Mississauga girl to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police were called to a collision around 4:40 a.m. today after a gold Honda travelling westbound on Hwy. 401 west of Mavis Rd. struck the back of a pick-up truck. The collision sent the Honda into the guard rail before it vaulted up and over the rail and came to a stop in the ditch, police said.
The 17-year-old girl driving the Honda was taken to Credit Valley Hospital before being transferred to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. She remains in life-threatening condition.
The male driver of the truck was not injured.
The second and third westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 will likely remain closed for several hours as OPP from the Port Credit detachment investigate. Police are reporting heavy traffic on the highway as well as some minor secondary collisions in the traffic from drivers not focused on the road.
