The collision occurred Saturday about 9:30 p.m. A man was driving south on Route Ste. Béatrix when he lost control and ended up in the oncoming traffic lane.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Martine Isabelle said the dead include the 20-year-old male driver of one car and his 18-year-old female front-seat passenger.

A female minor who was a passenger in the rear seat of that car was one of those critically injured, Isabelle said.

The car was hit head-on by a northbound car, with a man driving, a woman in the passenger seat, and a girl in the back seat.

A third car, driven by a man, hit one of the cars from behind.

Isabelle said at the beginning of the investigation it was unknown which car was hit from behind.

The driver of the third car suffered minor injuries.
