ONTARIO - A Toronto area man died after he lost control of his Honda Civic on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 Tuesday evening near the Wooler Road exit.
Quinte West fire chief John Whelan was the first on the scene. Whelan found the car upside down on the highway embankment and Whelan said the man had been ejected. He found the victim several meters from the wreckage.
"I put a tarp on the body," he said.
Whelan received the 911 call around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Ambulance and OPP were on the scene just minutes later.
"Because it was so dark and rainy, firefighters had a hard time locating the crash," said Whelan. Once at the scene, firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to scan the area around crash.
"At that point we didn't know the man was the only occupant of the car," said Whelan.
The OPP closed the eastbound lanes for nearly five hours, but as of 11 a.m., OPP had not released the name of the deceased driver.

I'm interested in hearing from others about the photo.
If this were my son, I'm not sure I would want to see this, being so vivid and his shoes visible.
Thoughts?
Contrary to what others suggest, we do think about the impact photos such as these can have on those who knew this man personally.
Others feel different, they think the photo creates a strong reaction to how easily this can happen to anyone and why driving is a dangerous responsibility.
yea, this picture is quite graphic. but sometimes people need to see the grim reality of it.
If anything, it should drive home to many the importance of wearing a seatbelt. God rest his soul.
