Source: Castlegar News

BRITISH COLUMBIA -
On Friday Nov. 20, at a approximately 3:15 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor trailer headed west on Highway 3A near Thrums.

West Kootenay Traffic Services’ Constable Charles Witwicki confirmed the victim is a local area man though his identity has yet to be released.

“We really can’t say at this point,” said Const. Witwicki. “We’re still working on it. It’s going to take some time.”

The Castlegar detachment of the RCMP was first to respond to the call. West Kootenay Traffic Services took over once the collision was deemed a fatality.

Highway 3A was closed briefly then opened to alternating traffic. This caused significant delays for travelers and many were diverted to Pass Creek Road to the north. The highway was re-opened to two-way traffic around 6:30 p.m.

The tractor trailer was operated by a company from Manitoba. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
