SASKATCHEWAN -
A young man was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries on Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle near Regina's downtown area.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Saskatchewan Drive and Rae Street at about 8:25 p.m.

The initial investigation by the Regina Police Service found that the male pedestrian — who is about 20 years old — may have been walking on the street when the collision occurred.

At the scene, police spoke to the driver of the vehicle involved. While alcohol is not believed to have been a factor on the part of the driver, police are investigating whether the pedestrian was under the influence at the time.

Charges have not been laid at this time.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene as the investigation continued Sunday night.
