Massive pileup closes Hwy 2 between Carstairs and Didsbury

ALBERTA - Treacherous roads and a massive highway pileup has closed Highway 2 between Carstairs and Didsbury.

Airdrie RCMP are advising that Highway 567 East to Highway 9 is in extremely poor winter driving condition because of the severe weather.

Icy roads and poor visibility have left an estimated 50 to 60 cars in ditches after dozens of crashes.

There are no reports of major injuries, however several minor injuries have occured.

Traffic on Highway 2 is being re-routed to Highway 2A at Didsbury overpass.

Northbound traffic is being re-routed at the Carstairs overpass.

A snowfall warning is also in effect for the Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, and Waterton Lakes National Park. Up to 15 cm of snow is expected by late afternoon before the snow tapers off this evening.
