Source: RCMP BC Media

BRITISH COLUMBIA -
A 47 year old male was killed Friday night in a two car collision near the intersection of Highway 19 and Lantzville Rd.

At approximately 6:00 PM, Robert James Mitchell, a resident of Nanaimo died after his 1993 Geo Tracker collided with a 1989 Jeep YJ. It appears Mitchell may have been attempting a left onto Highway 19 from Lantzville Rd when his vehicle collided with the northbound Jeep YJ, driven by a 38 year old male. Both vehicles were destroyed and the driver of the Jeep received upper body injuries. He was transported to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and his status is currently unknown.

The crash closed the highway for several hours while Nanaimo RCMP investigated the collision scene. No other persons were injured and preliminary reports do not support alcohol or speed as contributing factors. It was raining at the time and roads were wet and slippery.

Nanaimo RCMP are continuing with their investigation and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
