ONTARIO - An Ottawa area teenager was killed Saturday in a car crash that also left two others in hospitals.
Kyle Simpson, 19, of Ashton, died at the scene of the crash on South Lavant Road, just west of Highway 511 in Lanark Highlands Township.
The OPP said a westbound pick-up truck collided head on with an eastbound car on the two-lane road at 3:05 p.m. Investigators are still trying to piece together how the crash occurred.
Simpson, a passenger in the car, succumbed to extensive injuries before paramedics could transport him to hospital.
The drivers of the pick-up truck and car were taken to the Perth Hospital, but their names have not yet been released by police.
Friends remembered Simpson, a graduate of South Carleton High School, as a happy and hardworking young man. He worked full-time at TDL, a truck and trailer repair shop in Carp. He was hoping to become a fully licenced truck mechanic.
In an interview, Mikie Thompson, 26, described Simpson as a good man who has had bad luck with cars. He had been in two previous car collisions in the last two or three years, Thompson said.
"He would do anything for anybody," Thompson said. "It's a big loss."
Lanark County OPP continued to investigate the cause of the collision late Saturday.
A FaceBook Group, In Loving Memory of Kyle Simpson, has been setup by family and friends to share condolences and fond memories of Kyle.
