Pedestrian killed on northern Alberta highway near Valleyview

ALBERTA - RCMP are investigating the death of a young pedestrian who was struck by two vehicles Saturday night as she was crossing a northern Alberta highway.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, was walking near the centre of Highway 43 about 15 kilometres west of Valleyview. Around 8:30 p.m. she was hit by a westbound pickup truck, then struck again by an eastbound semi truck and trailer.

RCMP want to talk to the driver of the semi, who stopped only briefly after the crash before driving away.

The victim’s name has not been released. No charges are expected in the incident, RCMP said.

Valleyview is about 350 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
