Scarborough man in hospital with severe injuries after being hit by car

ONTARIO -
A pedestrian suffered life-threatening head injuries this afternoon after he ran in front of a Honda Accord at Ellesmere Rd. and Midland Ave. in Scarborough.

The man, in his 20s, was struck while crossing the intersection on a red light after leaving a Subway restaurant, police said.

He was hit by the car's passenger-side front corner and went partly through the windshield. The Accord was making a right turn to go eastbound on Ellesmere

As well as head injuries, the pedestrian suffered a fractured leg.

Police are trying to find out if alcohol was a factor. Witnesses told police the pedestrian consumed alcohol at another restaurant before going to the Subway.

The 67-year-old man driving the Honda Accord was in shock, but uninjured.

The intersection at Ellesmere Rd. and Midland Ave. will remain closed until the police investigation is finished.
