ALBERTA RCMP MEDIA RELEASE

ALBERTA
- At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009, Brooks RCMP, Brooks Fire Department and EMS, as well as the Duchess Fire Department, were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision where two pickup trucks had collided head on.

Investigation revealed that the driver of a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck had been westbound on highway 544, approximately 1 km east of highway 873 near Duchess, Alberta. At that point, the driver of the Dodge struck a 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup truck head on in the eastbound lane. The Nissan Frontier was heading eastbound at the time.

The lone occupant of the Dodge, a 29 year old male from Calgary, Alberta, was transported by STARS to the Calgary Foothills Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Both occupants of the Nissan Frontier, 42 year old Andrian TITYK of Edmonton, Alberta, and 45 year old Nikolai SLEPKO of Airdrie, Alberta, died on impact and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Brooks RCMP Detachment, Lethbridge RCMP Traffic Services and the Calgary Medical Examiners office are investigating the collision.

Alcohol and weather conditions are not considered to be factors in the collision but speed may have been, and the exact cause still remains under investigation.
