Two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Chase B.C. claims one life

BRITISH COLUMBIA -
On Monday November 23rd, 2009 at approximately 5:28 in the afternoon; members of the Chase RCMP Detachment, Kamloops RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services, Chase Fire/Rescue, B.C. Ambulance and a RCMP Traffic Analyst were called out to investigate a two vehicle fatal motor vehicle incident. This fatal crash took place on the Trans Canada Highway 1 at Chief Neskonlith Drive, just west of Chase, BC.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound vehicle conducted an unsafe pass on the right hand gravel shoulder portion of the roadway, on the right of another vehicle waiting to turn left off the highway. The westbound vehicle then lost control and collided with an east bound motor vehicle.

The male driver of the first vehicle, a 43 year old Chase resident, was deceased at the scene. The male driver and the female passenger of the second vehicle, 46 and 48 year old Maple Ridge residents, were secured at the scene and shortly thereafter transported by ambulance to the Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital with non life threatening injuries sustained from the crash.

Name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. Police state that this crash is still under investigation.
