ALBERTA -
A woman and a small child were seriously injured in one of two multi-vehicle collisions caused by slippery roads just outside St. Albert, Alberta, Friday morning.

Two crashes — one involving three vehicles, the other involving four — happened just before 8 a.m. along the patch of Sturgeon Road where it leaves St. Albert and enters Sturgeon County, RCMP said.

The woman and the child were injured in the first crash. They were taken to hospital in Edmonton. The second crash occurred when four more vehicles came upon the same slippery section of road and collided, police said.

Conditions along the road were fine but suddenly became quite slippery, RCMP said.
