And why did the driver of the SUV lose control? False sense of security, maybe? Child, 3, pinned after crash

ALBERTA - A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries Thursday after being pinned under an SUV that slammed into a bus stop Thursday afternoon.

A woman and her three-year-old daughter were standing at a bus shelter waiting for the bus in the area of 129 Ave. and 66 St. when police say an SUV lost control and slammed into the shelter.

"Inside the bus shelter was the mother with her three-year-old. They were both struck by the vehicle, the three-year-old was stuck under the vehicle for a short time (and) emergency services was able to extract the baby," said Acting staff Sgt. Jason Altmiks with Edmonton police.

The child suffered some bumps and bruises, and the mother has some head injuries. Both will remain in hospital overnight for observation.

The female driver of the SUV was also taken to hospital but is expected to be released Thursday night.

No charges have been laid at this point.
