Car burns after collision, man in Saskatoon hospital

Source: Saskatoon StarPhoenix

SASKATCHEWAN -
One man is in hospital after he struck a parked semi trailer Monday morning, sending his vehicle into flames.

At about 9 a.m., an eastbound van with Alberta license plates rear-ended the semi at Circle Drive and Preston Avenue. The van caught fire, trapping the sole occupant inside.

A firefighter, who also serves as a training instructor with Fire and Protective Services, arrived on scene in a department vehicle and used fire extinguishers from other vehicles to keep the fire contained until fire trucks arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.

Workers had to use numerous methods to remove the driver from the severely damaged van, after which he was taken to hospital.
