BRITISH COLUMBIA -
Kamloops RCMP had a portion of Tranquille Road closed for hours on Monday to investigate an early-morning crash that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

Police said the 88-year-old was crossing the road at Tranquille and Yew Street on her motorized scooter before 8 a.m., when she was struck by a southbound Ford pickup truck.

Edna Watt-Scott was taken to Royal Inland Hospital, but later died of her injuries.

Mounties said the investigation is ongoing, but have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor of the collision.

However, vehicle speed, visibility and weather conditions are being reviewed.

The woman was in a marked crosswalk when the incident occured.

Traffic analysts were at the scene for some time afterward speaking to witnesses.

The driver of the truck has been interviewed by investigators and is co-operating with police.

The specific stretch of road is in a school zone and has a posted speed limit of 30 km/h between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., but goes up to 50 km/h in the evening.
