Source: RCMP BC

BRITISH COLUMBIA -
The Quesnel RCMP have responded to a three-vehicle collision on Highway #97, south of Quesnel, near Kersley. The call was received by the police at approximately 5:48 pm today and units were enroute, when this information was prepared.

Information at this time indicates there were three vehicles involved in the collision; one of them a commercial transport unit. It has been confirmed that at least one person has died in the crash and others have been injured. The exact numbers have not been confirmed at the time of this release.

Highway #97 is currently closed to all traffic; northbound and southbound, as the police investigators attempt to secure evidence and establish what happened. A Collision Reconstructionist is enroute to the scene, from Prince George, to perform a forensic examination of the scene and the physical evidence. The highway will remain closed for the next three to five hours to permit the police to secure and document the evidence. At this time no traffic is being detoured around the scene.

The investigators are in the infancy of the investigation and have just arrived on the scene. No causal factors or contributing factors have been established at this time.

Motorists are recommended to make alterative travel plans if they have not already headed into this area. Anyone in the vicinity of the collision should ensure they have sufficient fuel, food, beverages, blankets and other necessities if they decide to remain in the stopped traffic, particularly with the cool temperatures.

Motorists are also reminded to slow down as hard-packed snow conditions on the road may be icy. Everyone travelling in the current weather conditions throughout the Central and Northern Interior, should be driving below the posted speed limit.

More information will be released in a few hours, once the police have had the chance to examine the entire circumstances and evidence.
