Sylvan Lake - At 12:35 p.m. on December 1st, 2009, Sylvan Lake RCMP, Sylvan Lake Fire Department, and Sylvan Lake Ambulance were dispatched to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 20, approximately 6 kilometers north of Sylvan Lake. An RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene in order to determine what had occurred.
On scene investigation has indicated the driver of a (Ford?) SUV, a 52 year old female from the Bluffton area, was heading southbound when she drifted towards the west ditch and overcorrected, heading into the oncoming lane and striking a northbound tractor trailer unit. Theforce of the collision tore the front wheels from the tractor trailer unit and both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch.
STARS air ambulance was used to transport the female driver to Edmonton to receive care for life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision and road conditions at the time of the collision were poor, with ice and snow covering the roadway.
The name of the injured female driver will not be released until permission is obtained from the family.
The driver of the tractor trailer unit was unharmed in the collision.

I own a '97 Ford Explorer SUV and it and its rims look similar to this one.
I can't imagine what the crash felt like.
I also couldn't help notice that when you view the picture of the SUV at full size, that one front tire has very little tread.
Seems to me the lady encountered some ice.
