BRITISH COLUMBIA - One man is dead as a result of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at the south end of Duck lake Wednesday afternoon.
Police say at around 3:30 p.m. a Lexus was traveling northbound on Hwy 97 in the fast lane.
Cst. Steve Holmes says the Lexus drifted across and into the southbound fast lane where it struck the drivers side wheel of a horse trailer being towed.
The wheel of the horse trailer was knocked off.
"The impact spun the Lexus further into the oncoming lanes where it struck two vehicles. One was a Chrysler type sedan that was struck on the driver's side," says Holmes.
The other, a mini van was hit on the passenger side. The driver, and lone male occupant of the Chrysler type sedan was deceased at the scene."
Holmes says the driver and passenger of the mini van, both seniors, were taken to KGH for treatment of undetermined non life threatening injuries.
"The driver of the Lexus, a 17 year old male, was unconscious and was taken to KGH for treatment of undetermined injuries. The road was dry and visibility was good."
Causal factors have not yet been determined but alcohol has been ruled out. The vehicles will be taken to be mechanically inspected.
No other details available as to vehicle descriptions, ages and residency of persons involved.
The highway was closed for several hours while crash analysts conducted their investigation.

Highway 97 traffic backed up by multi-vehicle collision
BRITISH COLUMBIA - A multi-car collision has tracked backed up in both directions on Highway 97 near Duck Lake, north of Kelowna.
Details are still sketchy at this point, but the collision is believed to involved up to five vehicles in the southbound lanes, two of which could be clearly seen stuck on top of a two-foot high cement roadside barrier.
Police aren’t releasing any details but they are calling the collision a crime scene.
It is believed some of the drivers and occupants of the vehicles invovled sustained serious injuries.
The area where the crash occurred is just north of the Kelowna International Airport highway exit.
There are reports that the highway will be impassable for the next several hours.

Driver distraction. No doubt about it. Roads were dry, weather was clear and I doubt a mechanical failure spin will fly with the cops.
If people doubt that people are texting behind the wheel, despite the laws that exist is several provinces, spend a day as a pedestrian and watch drivers as they sit at stoplights. You'll be stunned.
