ONTARIO - Highway 11 became an air landing strip Tuesday.
The Ontario Provincial Police report a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on the highway, 20 kilometres north of North Bay.
Repairs were made and the plane resumed its flight.
OPP received a call at about 1:30 p. m. requesting assistance in allowing a plane to make the emergency landing.
Two male occupants aboard a 1997 Rans S-7 Courier, single-engine advanced ultralight detected technical problems which forced them to land since they were losing fuel.
They landed successfully on the highway just south of Tilden Lake. The mechanical problem was fixed at roadside and after consultation with Transport Canada, officers closed the highway and allowed the plane to take off and proceed to Jack Garland Airport in North Bay.
