Man killed in crash of stolen vehicle near Cold Lake: RCMP

ALBERTA - A 25-year-old man died Sunday after the stolen vehicle he was driving rolled off a highway near Cold Lake.

The vehicle had been left idling in the parking lot in Cold Lake with the doors unlocked when it was taken, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

Police responded to a call about an erratic driver on Highway 897 later Sunday night and found the stolen vehicle on the side of the road — but when officers approached, the driver fled the scene.

Later that evening, RCMP found the vehicle overturned off the side of Highway 897. The driver had been ejected and was dead at the scene.

Police said they don’t believe anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
