Michael Allan Calliou, 48, killed in northern Alberta crash

Source: Edmonton Journal

ALBERTA -
Police say alcohol was likely involved in a northern Alberta crash that killed a 48-year-old man Saturday.

The collision happened on Highway 986 in the sparsely populated forests north of Lesser Slave Lake, near the community of Marten Lake, east of Peace River. Police got a call at 12:25 p.m. about a two-vehicle crash on the single-lane highway, and were still en route when they were told one of the occupants had died.

The collision was between a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling east and a 1993 Dodge T115 minivan travelling west. Investigators determined the minivan crossed the centre line to collide with the truck. They suspect alcohol on the part of the minivan driver, but no charges have been laid, said local RCMP Cpl. Mark Potts on Sunday evening. The investigation is ongoing.

The 22-year-old driver of the truck was not seriously injured.

Michael Allan Calliou, a resident of Marten Lake, died on scene. He was a passenger in the minivan.
