N.S. man killed on Saskatchewan highway

SASKATCHEWAN - A man from Nova Scotia was killed on the Trans-Canada Highway in Saskatchewan on Thursday following a crash between a pickup truck and a semi-trailer.

The collision happened around 7:30 p.m. at Fleming, close to the Manitoba border, about 240 kilometres east of Regina.

When the passenger's side of the eastbound semi and the driver's side of the pick up collided, both vehicles ended up in the ditch, the RCMP said.

The victim, a 45-year-old man whom police say was travelling back to Nova Scotia from Alberta, was the driver and lone occupant of the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, a 52-year-old man from Boissevain, Man., was treated for shock and released by ambulance staff.

A collision analyst from Swift Current traffic services was on the scene late Thursday trying to find out what caused the crash.

Police haven't released the name of the Nova Scotia man pending notification of family members.
