NEW BRUNSWICK -
An 80-year-old New Brunswick man is dead following a weekend pedestrian collision.

He was crossing Highway 11 on Saturday to attend a Christmas party at a seniors club in Barryville when he was killed, said District 8 RCMP Const. François Poirier.

The name of the victim, who is from Chapman Island, has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle did not have sufficient time to avoid the collision, said Poirier.

He was transported to Miramichi Hospital to be treated for nervous shock and was later released.

The preliminary investigation indicates the crash was caused by pedestrian distraction, police said.
