NEW BRUNSWICK - Jeremy Robert Shaw of Centennial Road in Passekeag was killed just before midnight Thursday when his vehicle left the road and rolled several times.
He was on his way home from work.
The 23-year-old was returning home to his new wife, Amy Raynes, and four-month-old baby when his 1997 Honda Civic left the road while on the off-ramp at exit 142 of Highway 1 in Quispamsis, said Cpl. Pat Cole of the Hampton RCMP.
He was taking the short way home from his job at Canaport LNG in east Saint John, preparing to navigate onto Palmer Brook Road to hit Highway 100 toward Hampton when the single-vehicle crash happened.
Shaw was alone in the car.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Our preliminary investigation leads us to believe he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash," Cole said.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist was on the scene until early Friday recreating the scene to determine the factors involved in the crash. Details of that report were still unavailable at press time Friday.
"We don't know if there was animal action or any other factors involved at this time," Cole said.
There were no witnesses to the crash.
An autopsy was being performed on Shaw Friday, however, it is clear that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Cole confirmed.
Shaw graduated from Hampton High School in 2005.
"We know he talked to his wife earlier before the crash to say he was on his way home," Cole said.
The young man was the son of Charles and Marie (Hanley) Shaw of Passekeag.
Details of Shaw's funeral arrangements were not available Friday night.
