Teen in trauma unit following pedestrian collision

ONTARIO -
A motor vehicle collision between a pedestrian and a car has sent a 15-year-old boy to the Kingston General Hospital's trauma unit and a two-year-old who was in a stroller the boy was pushing to Belleville General Hospital.

City police report the collision took place at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Thursday on Sidney Street, north of Lewis Street. Witnesses have told officers the 15-year-old "ran into traffic in a westbound direction" and was struck by a northbound vehicle operated by a 37-year-old woman.

While the three occupants of the vehicle did not suffer injuries the teen male is listed in "serious condition" and the toddler was admitted for observation with non life-threatening injuries.

Traffic on the street was diverted to allow the investigation into the collision to proceed.

The Belleville police service collision reconstructionist officer, the forensic identification unit, Belleville fire fighters and paramedics all attended the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
