Three sent to hospital after Orillia snow plow hits SUV

Source: Barrie Examiner

ONTARIO -
Three people were taken to hospital, one in serious condition, following a two-vehicle collision Sunday evening involving a snow plow, said Orillia OPP Const. Gerry Dwyer.

While heading northbound on Westmount Drive just north of Arthur Street a City of Orillia snow plow's shovel struck a manhole cover around 7:30 p. m, Dwyer said.

The result pushed "the plow into the front of another vehicle," he said.

"The other vehicle (a blue Ford Explorer) was southbound on Westmount Drive (and) was stuck by the front of the plow."

The 53-year-old male snow plow driver suffered minor injuries, Dwyer said.

The 20-year-old male driver of the Ford has "minor injuries", but his passenger, a 19-year-old female "had more serious injuries," Dwyer said.

"All three were transported to (Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital) by ambulance," Dwyer said.

Sections of Westmount Drive were closed for several hours following the collision.

The investigation has been complete and no charges were laid, Dwyer said.
