Two killed in crash near Owen Sound

ONTARIO -
Ontario Provincial Police closed Highway 6 & 10 south of Owen Sound today following a three-vehicle collision that left two people dead.

The collision occurred just after 11 a.m. when two vehicles, a car being driven north and a southbound tractor-trailer, both hit a pickup truck that entered the highway from Sunny Valley Road, Grey County OPP said in a news release.

The occupants of the pickup, a man and woman who police said were from "Central Ontario," died at the scene. Further details, including the names of the couple, were being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital in Owen Sound by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured but taken to hospital as a precaution, police said.

The highway may be closed for some time as OPP collision reconstruction experts investigate the scene, Const. Steven Starr, the Grey County OPP spokesman, said this afternoon.

Highway traffic meanwhile is being rerouted to Derby Concession Road 5 along Grey Road 18 at Rockford and Grey Road 16 north of Chatsworth.
