Woman walking her dog killed in hit-and-run in Burnaby
BRITISH COLUMBIA - A woman walking her dog on a Burnaby road was struck and killed in a hit-and-run Thursday morning.
Burnaby RCMP say the female victim was hit by a white van as she was walking on Imperial Street near Marlborough Avenue around 8 a.m.
She was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead soon after.
The driver of the van drove off and the woman's medium-sized brown dog is missing.
Police say the suspect vehicle is a full-size white work van, a GM or Chevy model from about 1993 to '96.
The van was last seen heading north on Marlborough, that will have extensive damage to its front end, possibly on the passenger side.
The woman was not carrying identification and police hope the dog will be found and that it has tags to confirm its owner.
Police said Imperial Avenue was closed off Thursday morning between Royal Oak and Nelson as crash analysts investigate.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the van are asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers.
