York Region Transit driver charged in fatal bus crash

ONTARIO - A 42-year-old York Region Transit driver has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a Woodbridge teenager.

Sixteen year-old Woodbridge College student Catherine Tran was crossing the street at Chancellor Drive and Pine Valley Drive Nov. 12 when she was struck by a bus going southbound to make a left turn onto Pine Valley Drive.

Miss Tran was pronounced dead at the scene.

The York Regional police reconstruction unit finished their investigation.

Igor Kats of Toronto has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with not turning safely.

Mr. Kats will appear before the provincial offences justice court in Newmarket Dec 21.
