Crash kills oilpatch worker near Little Smoky, AB

RCMP MEDIA RELEASE

ALBERTA
- On January 15, 2010 at approximately 7:30 am, Fox Creek RCMP responded to a call involving a tractor-trailer unit that had rolled over while heading eastbound on Simonette Road near Little Smoky, Alberta.

RCMP located the collison scene 60 kilometers west of Highway 43. Investigators believe the driver of the semi was trying to negotiate a turn but was too wide in his approach. As the driver was turning, the middle of his vehicle hit the bridge's side rail causing the vehicle to ride up on the side rail for approximately 15 meters until the vehicle toppled over onto the cab.

The cab portion of the tractor unit was crushed by the weight resulting in the death of the driver.

The identity of the driver, a 42-year-old man from Sylvan Lake, is not being released at this time.

Investigators are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact Fox Creek RCMP at 780-622-3580.
